Dr. Furlan grew up in Snohomish County. She graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. She then spent a year working in biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. She returned to the West Coast and received her medical degree from the University of Southern California, where she earned the Dean's List distinction and met her future husband. Following an internship year in general surgery, Dr. Furlan graduated from a three-year residency in ophthalmology at the largest program in the country, UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Furlan served as the Chief Resident of Ophthalmology, then completed a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the same program.

She returned to the Northwest in 2013, accepting a position at The Everett Clinic. In 2023, she opened Cascade Retina, an independent physician-owned practice dedicated to the care of patients with retinal conditions. Dr. Furlan has repeatedly received 'Top Doctors' awards from The Seattle Met Magazine and The Seattle Magazine, elected by a survey of licensed healthcare professionals responding to the question, "If you or a loved one needed care, who would you choose?"

Dr. Furlan enjoys hiking, skiing, playing classical piano, gardening, cooking, oil painting, and attending her three boys' soccer games.
